THE BODY INVADERS:
EVERYDAY ADDICTIONS

I think that this DVD is interesting, because I like things to do with health and I find it interesting that there’s a vaccine to reduce addiction. I like to learn things about health because I like to learn about my body and what harms it. I think that this DVD really teaches me a lot of things because it shows me the livers of an alcoholic and a non-alcoholic and the difference was pretty big. The liver of an alcoholic had wrinkled and bumpy side, while the liver of the non-alcohol had a smooth side. Also, I think that the lungs were interesting too, because the lung of a smoker really does expand and you can clearly see that the tissues are dying and that the color of the cigarette they smoke is concentrated in the lung. After watching this DVD, it teaches me how severe addiction can get and how it can lead you to do things that you would never want to do. Also, it also amazes me that so many people can stand up and fight their addiction, because obviously, addiction is hard to fight if so many people fall for it. So, I liked this DVD and it was very interesting.

THE CRISIS NO. 1

I think that this was a very persuasive and inspiring pamphlet. I think that Thomas Paine explained and made his purpose of this essay very clear. He told the Americans to not be oppressed by the British and encouraged the Americans to be brave and fight back. In addition, he also mentioned that God would be on their side. I thought that it was interesting that Paine described soldiers as summer and patriots as sunshine. I think that it was appropriate because it symbolizes how these people were only there for the good times. The British oppressed the colonists very badly and I agree that the colonies should join together and fight back. Also, I think that this quote was very inspiring, “Well! Give me peace in my day.” I thought that it was inspiring because this quote was spoken from a father who was holding a child in his hands, who was eight or nine years old. Paine said that “and a generous parent should have said, ‘If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.’” I agree with Paine, I think that a good father should have fought for their rights and give their children peace in the next generation. In conclusion, this was very inspiring!

DR. HEIDEGGER'S EXPERIMENT

This story is about Dr. Heidegger’s experiment on testing how these four kinds of people would do to try to conquer or fight over the fear of going old. These four people were old friends of Dr. Heidegger and they all had something that they desire. In addition, because of these desires, it causes them to not be able to stop their greediness and need for the water of the Fountain of Youth. Also, it caused them to not learn their lesson in the very end of the story also.

I think that this was an interesting story. I think that it’s interesting because this story is inspired by the real-life expeditions of a Spanish explorer, Ponce de León. Personally, this story teaches me to not be greedy and to not fall into the imaginary world of illusions. On the other hand, I think that if I was one of the four guests, I would also keep drinking the water from the Fountain of Youth for my look too. In the story, the four guests were all like compelled to the idea that they had to be young again. In the end, I think that this story reveals the weakness of how humans what to live eternally.
